Start Small
I want to speak about building a relationship with Christ. How hard it is, yet how insanely simple it is at the same time.
We often steer away from our relationship with the Lord because of many reasons. Sometimes, we think we are unworthy. Other times, we think God is too busy to deal with our small issues. Possibly, we are unsure on whether to continue a relationship with Him. Most of the time, I can almost guarantee, our lack of relationship with God is because we often put too much pressure on ourselves to start a relationship with the Lord, creating overwhelming standards and expectations for ourselves on what our relationship with God should look like; when we never even had the self discipline to do so in the first place.
How can we have a glorious relationship with the Lord that we can be proud of when we just simply don't value Him enough to put aside just one minute in the day to talk and pray to Him; yet we expect ourselves to just open up the bible and read it front to back and pray for hours at a time?
Take a step back and look at the high expectations you have made for yourself to have a relationship with Him. Hindering your walk with God when He has already made a way for us by sacrificing His one and only Son, Jesus Christ! Stop putting pressure on yourself to do these incredulous tasks that you can barely wrap your mind around when you are so busy filling your mind with everything but the Lord.
Start small.
God has already opened the door, all you have to do is take one little baby step through it. That step for you can be saying a 10 second prayer, "Lord, thank you for today." Or you can bible study for 10 minutes. Even 5! Not even. Just read one passage, and it doesn't even have to be in a specific book, it could just be the passage of your favorite Bible verse. You could choose to listen to worship music on your way to wherever, or while you get ready for the day. You could take a step towards building your relationship with God by watching some online sermons or Christian podcasts for 30 mins. Or even watching small clips of sermons that are 30 seconds long.
Start small.
Allow God to light a fire in your heart for Him, first, before you burn yourself out before He even has an opportunity to really work in your relationship with Him.
It takes time, but it's the small steps we take walking toward God that often gets us much further than running at a sprint without any training or guidance. God knows where your heart is, so just ask Him what He wants YOU to do on a personal and daily basis. He'll tell you, and whatever He says, just trust that His request for you is more than enough to get you started. God LOVES you more than anything, and He wants a relationship with you, personally. So much so, His only Son was sacrificed on a cross by a horrendous death. A Son who loved us so much, He willingly died for us so we ALL could have a chance at getting to know our awesome Father in Heaven. It is never too late to start a relationship with God, and it's never too early. You could start tonight by listening to just one worship song, or just telling God thank you, or you love Him.
Simple is better.
Simple is more.
Simple is the reason my relationship with the Lord is so strong today, and yet, He is still curating my relationship with Him to become even stronger.
The Lord is my life.
He is my Father.
I am His daughter.
Together, Him and I are inseparable.
Glory be to God.
Forever I will remain in the body of Christ.
Please feel free to say this prayer for yourself and for your relationship with the Lord, "Lord, I pray to You today, knowing fully well I fall short of your Glory every day, but every day, You choose to stick by me, anyway. You love me so much more than I could ever understand. Lord, I long for a relationship with You. I long to feel the endless love You hold for me in Your heart. Show me today what it means to be in relationship with You. Allow my heart to open today to feel, even just a little bit, the love you have for me. Holy Spirit, flow through me and guide me to become closer to my Lord, in the Name of Jesus. Give me the spiritual wisdom I lack so I may start to comprehend the love of God and His ways more clearly. Holy Spirit, use me so I may be guided righteously in my relationship with the Lord. Lord, show me how to have a fruitful relationship with You in my everyday life, and give me the courage, determination, and self-dedication to keep chasing after You. I pray this in Your Holy and Mighty Name, Jesus, Amen."
Peace be to you, and may it be multiplied, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
